St. John Beaches

The primary appeal of St. John, of course, is the natural beauty of its beaches, which range from perfect, white sand shores to rugged and rocky terrain. The Virgin Islands National Park manages all the beaches along the north shore of the island. These are the most beautiful and popular beaches on St. John, while the south shore and eastern shore are home to more secluded, remote beaches.

Hawksnest Beach – A narrow beach that can be crowded. Good snorkeling, especially to the east of the bay.

Trunk Bay Beach – Great, scenic beach, regarded by some as the best beach on the island. Best snorkeling on St. John – some say the best in the Carribbean. Check out the 650 ft. Underwater Trail. Also a good spot for diving and sailing – Trunk Bay Beach is the central location of watersports activity.

Cinnamon Bay Beach – Lovely, scenic beach at the Virgin Islands National Park campgrounds. Water sports equipment rental, hiking trails and other features on offer.

Maho Bay Beach – Beautiful beach near campgrounds, especially good for snorkeling.

Francis Bay Beach
– A favorite among locals, this rocky bay is great for snorkeling. Good place to escape the crowds.

Salt Pond Bay – Rugged, rocky beach with tide pools that make for interesting snorkeling. A true hidden gem.

Lameshur Bay – Remote and quiet, this beach is good for snorkeling. Great place to get away from the crowds and enjoy the beach.

Leinster Bay
– Another spot favored by locals, this small beach offers access to Waterlemon Cay, a small island just off the coast. It’s a short swim, about a tenth of a mile. Make your way here for fantastic snorkeling.
